GROUPS
We arrange routes and timings based on the below criteria. Use these as a guide to the right group for you, based on your ability or what sort of run you wish to join. We encourage runners to move up and down groups as their fitness allows. Run leaders and coaches will always ensure that runners are not left behind
There are 3 main group categories:- Foundatiom, Intermediates and Higher, with sub groups withing Foundation and Intermediates.
This group is for athletes who are capable of running for 1 hour with some breaks (walking and stationary) and will focus on working on essential skills and building a base level of running fitness. The Foundation group is subdivided into 3 sub-groups, Base Foundation, Steady Foundation and Advanced Foundation each with an increasing amount of running and less walking/stationary breaks. The Base Foundation group could cover approximately 5km in an hour whereas the Advanced Foundation group could cover approximately 7km in an hour.
This group is for athletes who are capable of running continuously for 1 hour. This group is subdivided into 3 sub-groups, Base Intermediates, Steady Intermediates and Advanced Intermediates each with an increasing amount of distance covered during the hour. The Base Intermediates group could cover approximately 7.5km in and hour whereas the Advanced Intermediates group could cover approximately 9.5km in an hour.
This group is for experienced athletes and those capable of running in excess of 10.5km in an hour.
There is also a new Return to Running group that sits outside of the main structure for those athletes who are returning to running after a period of injury or illness. This is a mixed ability group and athletes are expected to return to their usual group after a period of time.
